Our user is a 10-year old girl, born with an undeveloped left arm. Her limb is unique and she has a lump on her forearm. She used to play the violin using a prosthetic made for her by her music teacher. Even though her old prosthetic allowed her to hold the bow and play, it still had many limitations. In fact, it was too heavy, and difficult to put on and take off. It was also uncomfortable as it didn’t take into account the very sensitive lump on her forearm. It was too long, which caused the torque on her forearm to be too big, and thus increased the strain on her shoulder, causing her to get tired after playing the violin for 30 minutes only. Lastly, the old prosthetic didn’t provide our user with enough control, as she needed cable ties in order to play without the bow falling over the fingerboard.
